All that writing, why no books?

I'm curious. Rod Serling wrote most of the Twilight Zone episodes. And they were so good and thought-provoking, I wonder why he never published a book of short stories (written by him). He's put together and edited sci-fi collections of other writers' work. But I wish he had put out a few short stories or novels. I wonder why he didn't. At any rate, reading about him, he's a very interesting guy. He obviously died too young.

He did publish books in which he converted Twilight Zone scripts into short stories. He found short stories difficult to write. He loved radio and TV and thought of his stories in script form. That was just his passion and how his mind worked. But the books show that he could he definitely had a talent for writing short stories.

He wrote and published one book of three original novellas (long short stories) called The Season to be Wary. Two of the stories were lat re adapted as episodes of the Night Gallery pilot. A paperback copy isn't hard to find on ebay.
