Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jill Schoelen

    jeffyoung1 — 11 years ago(June 04, 2014 10:02 PM)

Jill Schoelen joined the Hollywood list of retired actors who were moderately successful in the top half of the B list in their prime. At least she was not a Z lister. Most actors and actresses hope for a successful career in the B list, preferably in the top half if not the top quarter. Getting into the A list is still largely a matter of luck, no matter one's acting skill and good looks. Such an actor can achieve a modicrum of fame and financial stability while it lasts. But time marches on and the actor or actress ages to where they are largely out of their age niche which sustained them in the ranks of the active B listers. It's difficult getting work in Hollywood as a middle-middle2000 aged or later person. Don't be irate with meI don't make the rules in Hollywood. Despite Hollywood's lip service to liberal and prgressive ideals and women's rights and feminism, behind the closed studio doors the execs still pick the youngest and the prettiest. And they for the most part get away with the hypocrisy because so many young people flock to Hollywood from the world over hoping for fame and fortune.
There was a point in time where Jill Schoelen was climbing to the top percentile of the B list where from there A list is achievable with the right break-out role. But the breakout roles never came her way. Bad luck? Bad choices? Talent management's fault? I don't think we'll ever know.
For better or worse most people who have achieved some acting success in Hollywood know when their time is up and hence move on into post-actor careers such as, real-estate, teaching, newscasting, writing, or simply marrying the right guy who will take care of them.
