I'm not sure what the name of the movi that I'm looking for, but it had a coast to coast road race. All that I can remember is that John Schneider was driving a red sports car at the very beginning of the movie (it was a cameo). Thank you !

I think you might be thinking of 'Speed Zone'. It was originally slated to be the third installment of the Canonball Run series but the only person, from the first two, who agreed to appear was Jamie Farr (as The Shiek). So it was renamed Speed Zone.
