KING Charles has refused the idea of a “cut-price” coronation and will use the event to showcase “UK PLC”, according to reports.
The Telegraph has reported that organisers believe one of the “key learnings” from coverage of the period between the Queen’s death and her funeral was that it projected a positive image of the UK to the rest of the world, and they are now looking to replicate that with the King’s coronation.
Organisers are said to be determined to invest in the event which will take place in Westminster Abbey on May 6.
It is understood that reports of a “cut-price” ceremony sparked fears the event would send an undesirable message to the rest of the world.
Insiders have insisted that only parts of the ceremony that would be considered outdated and cumbersome will be removed – it remains unclear which specific parts they refer to.
However, sources within Buckingham Palace and UK politicians are said to agree that trimming the event down would represent a missed opportunity to advertise “UK PLC” to the world.
The news comes amid a cost of living crisis which has seen inflation skyrocket and families across the UK struggle to make ends meet.
King Charles is reportedly conscious of the crisis, while the palace acknowledges that the event will be taking place during a time of extreme hardship.
Commenting on the news, a spokesperson for Republic said that the King had "badly misjudged the national mood".
They added: "There is no need for a coronation at all, he is already King. That he wants to put on a self-aggrandising show that will cost the taxpayer tens of millions of pounds is a slap in the face for the nurses, doctors, teachers and countless others who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.
"This will backfire and add fuel to the republican movement, which is already planning large protests on the day.
"All this will do is embarrass the UK and advertise the need for a serious debate about ending the monarchy."

And so here we are: days away from the coronation of Charles III. Along with much of the population, I will not be celebrating. A YouGov poll this month revealed that 64% of us don’t care very much or care at all about the event, while only 9% care a great deal.
I do care, perhaps not for the same reasons as that small minority of Britons, but because it is estimated that the whole event will cost up to £100m and – in line with self-serving royal traditions in this country – the bill will be picked up by the taxpayer, not the super-rich royals.
Why are we having a coronation, anyway? No other European monarchy bothers. The last one in Spain was in 1555, and the Scandinavian monarchies in Denmark, Sweden and Norway had all deemed the archaic practice unnecessary by 1906.
There is no legal need for a coronation. Charles is king without it. That was sealed in the days after the Queen’s death at the accession council, which I attended as a privy counsellor (though naturally none of us got a vote).
Incidentally, did you know that while the taxpayer is coughing up for the coronation and an additional £369m for a gold-plated, bells and whistles refurbishment of the palace, both King Charles and William, the Prince of Wales, have private estates that have yielded more than £1bn in the past.
When I asserted on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme that the Duchy of Cornwall estate should be regarded as public, not private, within an hour there was an intervention from St James’s Palace to demand acorrection, which was provided. If it is a “private” estate, how come it pays no corporation tax, as every private estate does?
But then the royals have form in lobbying to change the law in their favour, the only consistent thread being to take as much money as they can from the public and pay out as little of their own as possible. Truly, we have a royal mint and a national debt.

It's a gesture that would warm hearts, especially since he's not beloved like the Queen was.
Give him a little more time.
His mother had 70 years to prove herself.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

He could croak tonight! You obviously don't give a ****.
I'm simply saying that everyone needs a chance to prove one's self. It takes time.

Interesting, we had quite different numbers in the newspapers the recent days.
The Coronation costed about GBP 10 Mio / EUR 11 Mio (in 1953 about GBP 22 Mio / EUR 25 Mio).
….
….
It's estimated that London's hospitality and hotel industry alone is set to generate almost GBP 200 Mio more revenue this weekend. The industry association UK Hospitality estimates an additional turnover of GBP 350 Mio for the whole country.
Four million Britons planned a short holiday over the long weekend.
Travel agencies report increased bookings from America and the continent.
Retailers also look forward to increased sales from thousands of street parties and royalist parties. The Center for Retail Research estimates around GBP 130 Mio is spent on cakes, food, flags and party supplies. Bakers have produced special Charles cakes, Charles cardboard cutouts are available.
In addition, masses of souvenirs and memorabilia are to be sold for up to GBP 200 Mio.
