Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — John Paul Pitoc

    marlbar — 22 years ago(July 19, 2003 07:27 AM)

I recently veiwed TRICK, the movie with JP Pitoc and Christian Campbell. It was a very entertaining movie. I would think with a body, face and acting talent like J.P.'s that we would be seeing much more of him. There are some movies and TV performances listed, but where is he now? Does anybody know. I think he is worthy of more work in Hollywood. Are there any views.

WELL HERE IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. IF YOU WERE WRITING THE SCRIPT HOW WOULD YOU HAVE THE STORY CONTINUE? I AM LIKE YOU ALL I LOVED THE MOVIE AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT CONTINUE.

I don't think it should be continued. It showed that a movie of it's genre doesn't have to contain sex, and sex isn't the whole of a homosexual relationship. It was a very good movie with what it was and ending at where it ended. As to J.P. Pitoc, I do wish he would get larger roles. i was watching Ghost Whisperer tonight and he was in the episode. At first I didn't think it was him, but then with a scrunched brow I knew it was him. That and the credits during the beginning said he would be in it, even if it were for a little bit.

It looks like they are going with the other side on this one, preparing a sequel which will pick up with them 12 or so years later. There are actually a number of gay-themed films from the turn of the millennium which need this treatment more, but I know I'll certainly be interested in this sequel too.

I think IMDB says he's in Los Angeles. I wonder if he would have more success on Broadway. Sometimes I think you can be TOO talented for L.A., you know what I mean? Christine Ebersole was told she was too old for any more roles in L.A., so she moved back to New York and now she's the Queen of Broadway! I suppose there's more money in Los Angeles, but I bet J.P. would thrive on Broadway. He has REAL talent and personality, not the freeze-dried L.A. kind.

I totally agree, and his profile on IMDB says that he's in a large sum of popular New York broadway shows. I think it's the right place for him, and campbell.

JP and Christian were in my film, "Thank You, Good Night"; it took years to get out on DVD, but it's out there now to buy and download. Eventually, we hope to have in available on rental September 2007. J.P. will be starring in my upcoming feature, Shifting the Canvas, which we hope to shoot in October.

Oh really? I didn't know that "Shifting the Canvas" was going to be an actual movie. I saw the teaser trailer on a number of video websites and it seemed to fake. That's good to know now. 🙂

Ever auditioned for a film or television role? It's not unusual to see 50 or more attractive, talented actors all trying out for the same part. The one guy who gets the part is rarely the most attractive or most talented. He might not even be the best for the part. "Best" is in the mind of the casting director or his bosses, usually the executive producers looking out for the investors. The final choice is often arbitrary.
It's simply a matter of supply and demand.
There's no shortage in the supply of attractive, talented, young actors who want to work in film or television. But there is always a shortage of parts for them to play. That why most of them work in theater, or in restaurants.
Each year Pitoc manages to get 1 or 2 roles in a TV series episode or an independent film at SAG scale pay. That's not enough work to live on. And he can't depend on it. It has absolutely nothing to do with his being "worthy of more work in Hollywood."
Get the idea out of your head that if an actor is chosen for a film or TV role, then he must be walk on water. Get the idea out of your head that if an actor can't make it big in TV or film, then he must not be good enough.
Success in Hollywood has nothing to do with worthiness. Even for an attractive, talented, young actor, success in film and TV is largely a matter of luck, of being at the right place at the right time or making the right contact. It's a numbers game.
A lot of people think "Hollywood" actors make big bucks. Well, some do. But the average SAG actor makes about $5000 per year from acting in film or TV.

Yeah I agree. Not a bad movie but I fell in love with this guy, he's great. He played the part very well and he's sooo good looking. I'd fall for him to if he smiled at me on the bus:) Wish the movie would have had a bit more drama going on between the two guys though. I would love to see more of this guy. I'll sure be on the look out for him.
