One of the best cast members ever, yet doesn't receive the credit he deserves. Great!

I agree. If it wasn't for him and Eddie Murphy, SNL wouldn't be on the air today.

the problem with that statement is that if eddie wasn't on the show, only joe, it would have been cancelled, but if it was joe who never was on SNL, eddie still would have saved it.

But the show was "revived" even before Eddie became well-known. By the end of 1980-1981, he was still just in the background.

It's ahrd to say. I think both actors helped the show extremely. I don't think that the show would have been cancelled without Eddie or Joe, but definitelt would have been hit in the ratings. Both actors are great in their own right. Eddie got popular with his standup & movies, while Joe flourished with his one man shows. His show at UCLA back in '87 is fantastic. While he still does the show a few times a year, nothing like it used to be. Who knows where he'd be if he didn't take a break from films. Not sure if it was primarily from his cancer, or just a regular break. I'd love to see him go after come comedic roles. "Johnny Dangerously" is classic Joe.

we dont see enough of joe. he can have his own tv series. i say he revive the 'tony rome' character that sinatra brought out on the big screen. joe would be perfect.

Did you know that before he joined the SNL cast, he only did one impression? And it was Tom Snyder, NOT Frank Sinatra.
