I totally agree. Not only is he one of the best directors, but also one of the best screenwriters. This is one guy I count on to make movies that will be brilliant!

I don't think he's underrated. i think the film community considers him amongst the top 5 directors right now and he can get any actor and any movie he wants to do green lit. I just think he chooses to stay out of the spotlight and just continue to do what he wants and when he wants to. it's an ideal situation for him as he can have life, stay out of the politics of the business and completely immerse himself.
he always delivers a gem. what a gift. -

I reckon he's arguably the best film maker around today. Or at least right up at the top echelon. He is very consistent, and all his films accurately reflect a particular stage in life and hold some interesting theme.
While I don't think he is necessarily underrated, I just don't think he spits out enough films on a regular basis for him to be talked about as much as a filmmaker who is annually producing something. I really think that that, along with him seeming like a humble, quiet personality type who stays out of the limelight, is the main reason he may appear underrated.
And I have no issue with that, quality over quantity I say. If he continues on with how his career is going, he will be considered one of the great film makers of all time when he is done, and will be talked about and studied a hell of a lot then. IMO. -

I don't think he's underrated by the film community, but I think most producers often won't consider him for a movie they want to make.
Why? Because he's going to tell his own stories, and he likes smaller, more personal stories. He's not the guy you're going to try to tap for a comic book movie (or really, most adaptations) mostly because they already know that he's not interested. He has his own ideas and wants to make his own sorts of movies. At that point it's more like he has his own ideas and shops for a producer and studio who will give him the control he wants. They do, his movies do decently and get lots of awards, and everyone is happy. I think he's in the sweet spot.
