What is Scientology? What are their core beliefs? Does anyone have a quick rundown of it? I'm clueless.
    Thanks,
    Robert

It is a shame that she had to get into that Scientology crap! Man she was a great actress too! Lets just hope she does not do some crazy stunts like Tom Cruise did professing his love for Katie Holmes. That would not be cool to see at all but now if she did that for me I would not mind it though.

Iagree with RobBase. ScientologyIts core beliefs about God & the spirit and everything are fine, they seem to borrow/share a little from Hinduism as well as
          a lot
from New Age beliefs (among others).
But, I mean, it literally began with a '50s
          science fiction novel
. It has a logical process but is not "scientific" as it claims; moreover, faith should definitely not involve any scientific methods.
IMO, people can take a similar spiritual path without Scientology's artificial jargon & expensive required "auditing." Really, nobody should have to pay huge amounts of $$ in order to follow through w/ one's religious practices (see
          http://www.beliefnet.com/story/169/story_16925_2.html
). It's ridiculous. I guess famous actors (and Marisol's chiropractor) can easily afford it, though.
          CruzRobert
, sure! Here's a short rundown for you:
          Founder:
Scientology was founded in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard, an American science fiction writer and author of the best-selling book "Dianetics" (1950), which launched a popular self-enhancement movement out of which the Church of Scientology emerged.
          Main Tenets:
The name Scientology means "knowing how to know," and it maintains that it "constitutes man's first real application of scientific methodology to spiritual questions."it has a complicated vocabularyIts basic postulate is that experience, in this or in previous lives, is recorded in the brain as a series of "engrams." These engrams are revived and reinforced by recurring similar situations and always cause inappropriate and self-defeating behavior. One's goal of Scientology is to "process" or clear these engrams and become more self-determining. By erasing these accretions from one's present and past lives, one releases the essential, spiritual self or soul called the "thetan."
          Main Sacred Text:
          L. Ron Hubbard's best-selling book "Dianetics" is probably the closest thing to sacred scriptures for the Church of Scientology.
          From
          http://www.beliefnet.com/index/index_10042.html
What's a little ironic is that I just watched
The Princess and the Barrio Boy
, and in one scene, Sirena, Marisol's character, is lost in the streets of LA, and among the many neon signs she passes, there's one that says, Scientology. AY
With all respect to Marisolshe seems like a sweet person & is a wonderful actressthis makes me sad. I read in her TV.com trivia that she's a big fan of Dan Brown (can anyone confirm this?). No offense, but Dan Brown pretends to know all about religion (and history) when he's really ignorant. I swear that man is putting ideas in people's heads.

Hey thanks Tigrefan! I appreciate you agreeing with me on that but she should not have followed her chiropracters advice and remained the way she was in the first place.
Like you said they have the money to afford to do something like that while I am a blue collar worker here struggling to get by in what I do for a living. I hate that I am struggling but there is nothing I can do about it but keep plugging away at it and hope something will come up for me that is better.

No problem! I don't trust Scientology at all either and definitely agree with you that she shouldn't have listened to her chiropractor. But I guess that Scientologists have been successful at getting people to join their church, and it seems to be going around Hollywood.
And I know it's Marisol's life, not mine, but I really hope she finds a different religion later on
RobBase, totally! You keep working hardnothing bad can come out of that, and enjoy the work as much as is possible until something better comes for you.
Whatever your spiritual beliefs, stick to them in your work & life, as you definitely do not need Scientology! Lol

I have heard that they have seminars in Hollywood for actors and actresses to join. I cannot believe people would do something like that. You have Tom Cruise in that, John Travolta, Angela Watson I believe, and many others as well.
I will not get into anything like that because that is not the religion that I am into anyways. I do work hard and will keep trying until some job that will make me happy comes along for me.
Do not w1c84orry about that man. I am working hard right now to bring back a great show that use to be on the USA Network right now and you can see it on my signature. That show is USA UP ALL NIGHT!
They use to show a lot of different movies like B movies, cult classics, horror movies, and a few mainstream movies as well! It has not been easy but the petition is getting large though. There are 5318 signatures right now.
When I found this petition there were only 45 signatures and when I signed the petition I became #46. So that is a lot you know.

Scientology is a disgusting cult. Unfortunately, it seems to be the 'it' thing in Hollywood these days. Sad, really.

Yes very much so it is the saddest thing but how stupid a lot of these actors and actresses can be getting into that garbage! I know if I was to hit it big in Hollywood I would not get mixed up in that stuff at all!

I know what you mean because all it creates is problems! The next thing we know we will see Marisol Nichols on a couch professing her love for some guy and going as crazy as Tom Cruise did.

So Tom Cruise got giddy and jumped on a couch. Big freaking deal.

Sorry if it does not seem as if I am knowledgeable in Scientology but I still feel that in ways Tom Cruise has gone over board with some of the things that he does out in public.
I am Roman Catholic and you do not see me run out in the streets acting like Tom Cruise does do you? Hell no I do not do that at all!

People say Scientology is crazy, and well, it is. But is it really that much different from other "religions" where the follower has rather illogical beliefs based solely on faith? Just thought I'd throw that out there.

The main difference is that they expect big money in order to reach the highest levels of spirituality and they have "celebrity centers" instead of churches or temples or what have you. They seem to literally worship Tom Cruise. I realize that other religions have been involved in scandals (involving money, corruption, perversion, etc.) but they typically take an apologetic stance after these things happen. Scientologists just start sueing people. Here's the thing. It is entirely POSSIBLE that all faith-based religions are just a bunch of made-up, hocus-pocus intended to keep people in line and under thumb, but it is completely, blantantly OBVIOUS that Scientology is.

It reminds me a lot of Jim Jones and his "Jonestown" cult. Next thing you know old Tommy Boy is going to have them all drinking the red kool aid.

First off, I don't think spirituality and science are two extremes we must choose between. There is a middle ground and it seems like Scientology has its stake there.
Secondly, the celebrity, money-making aspect of Scientology is NO DIFFERENT than that of mainstream faiths like Christianity. There are an incalcuable number of preachers (Eddie Long, Joyce Meyer, Bobby Hinn, Paula White, Creflo Dollar, the list could go on!) who are millionaires and/or celebrities because regular people have, in search of truth, given them millions of dollars to be their leader. So, I definitely wouldn't single out Tom Cruise.
I think it's safe to say that religious leaders get their power "in numbers." No matter what you think of Tom Cruise or the founder of Scientology, ultimately the issue lies with those who give them the authority to believe they know everything.
In heaven, all of the interesting people are missing. Nietzsche

Once they have you there is no way out either. I suggest you read xenu.net if you're interested in some reading material.
