I think I'm going to start using the word "onnacounta" instead "because of" or "as a result of" as a tribute to Mike. It's fallen out of use, and I think he'd take a kind of dry, intellectual appreciation in having it restored on his behalf. Onnacounta it sounds really classy.

Thanks for posting on this "hot" topic , oldtvguy. I've also noticed Mr. Mazurki's fondness for the "onnacounta" coinage or neologism; whatever it is, he could have patented it. His delivery of it, and all the rest of his dialogue, was master class, which showed what a good actor he was, even with all the typecasting. I've always found him a likeable and sympathetic player. His performance as the obsessive, lovestruck (right word?) Moose Malloy in
Murder, My Sweet
is classic; it's his signature role. That was a lucky film for its cast, and it helped its star player, Dick Powell, reignite his career. His Philip Marlowe character was, aside from being a dogged professional for his client, Moose, but actually his best friend as well. You could see he cared about the guy.
