Hello Friends
I wanted to update you on my quest to acquire the rights to NotC and get a proper DVD out and do a sequel. I got a terrific attorney on the case and was quickly put in touch with MGM, who currently own the rights.
Unfortunately they do not want to sell them to me, as they have decided to develop it themselves. I asked that I be included in any way possible, and that if they found down the road that they had changed their minds, I would still like to buy the rights. I am so disappointed I don't even know what to say. All this time of wondering what on Earth was happening with the film and then pulling my resources together, finding it, and then having it snatched out from under my nose yet again is a nightmare. I want fans of Comet to know that I tried to get it back for us, so that we could do something in line with what people loved about it in the first place. I can only hope that they will stay true to the film and to the story. I have a beautiful letter of support from Thom Eberhardt that I sent them as well. Maybe someone at MGM realized what they were sitting on! Maybe even a fan. I don't know. Anyway, that's the official latest from me on Comet news. There are two fan club websites I recommend and at least one of them has a petition for fans to sign to get the DVD out finally. I asked both of the guys who run them to put their links on this page, or at least in a letter on this page. I have also started a blog (scary) and will report what I know regarding that film and other fripperygoings on in my life, etc. Take care and keep fingers crossed about Comet.
Best Regards,
Kelli -

Ok, well this is old news, I now see there has been a DVD release finally! It's just odd how some film studios will hold onto them for so long and refuse to re-release the rights to them!
I know there are a lot of cool 80's films with a small cult following, that have only been released on VHS 20 years ago but never get the green light for a DVD release. Such a shame! Thank you for your dilligence, Kelli!

Oh I hope an official DVD release comes out soon, cause then I can replace my bootleg DVD with the real thing! lol
Kelli,if you're reading this, PLEASE do whatever you can to get the rights or at least get the "official" DVD released. It's such a shame that such a wonderful movie has been around on VHS, cable TV and bootleg DVD's only. I'm more than certain that there are kids and teenagers today that have seen this film somewhere, loved it and searched hopelessly for a DVD and found only a bootleg DVD (I did). It would also be nice if there was a sequal. I'd love to see you in it.
Also, if there is a sequel could you tell the producers and director that in the film the legal drinking age should be ten, no pedestrians should cross against the light and that they don't need their Mastercards becuase"The stores are open!" LOL
Thank you -

HiCan I just take this holiday moment to tell you people how much I enjoy getting your messages?! Thank you. I told the lady at MGM that I wanted to be involved in any way that would be welcomed, so we'll see what happens.
I also said that if they changed their minds (you know how development stuff goes) to please let me know and that I would still like to purchase the rights. : )

MGM owns the rights to numerous films I adore, and only a few have been released lately (slowly but surely). And yes, though certainly not as bad as Paramount, I'm still irked.
Kelli, I think it's great that you're taking the time to post here and to let us know that you're fighting the good fight with MGM. Something I'm really quite grateful is having been able to see an original print of Night of the Comet in the theater this past October (it was a little horrorfilm fest, and I was able to see Halloween and Near Dark as well). It had been years since I had seen it, to be honest, and when you came onscreen, I quietly had a spazz-fit at my boyfriend, franitcally whispering to him, "It's her! I love her! She was in Chopping Mall!"
Not that you need any convincing, but it was quite an experience to share a room with many other fans, all of whom were able to laugh, cheer, and applaud together.
And before I ramble you to death, let me just wish you a happy holiday season<3

Wow Kelli, it's awesome that you're posting here! I had the pleasure of meeting you a few years ago in New Jersey at the Chiller Theatre Expo, got your autograph of course. I'm a fan of yours way back since you starred on Ryan's Hope. Tonight I watched NOTC on TMC-W. Great flick and a favorite of mine.
My opinion of the DVD release is that Sony, according to the above poster, SHOULD contact and include the actors and actresses for commentaries. The drawback of alot of the classic flicks is that most of the stars are no longer with us. It would be a great dis-service to us fans if a DVD release without actor interviews/commentaries is made just to make a quick buck. Although I own it on VHS a DVD would be a welcome addition.
Hope you had a nice Christmas holiday and the New Year brings good cheer to you,,,,,and all us fans if a DVD is made.

I just wanted to tell a quick story that happened last night. I was hanging out with a friend of mine, his younger brother, and a group of his younger brother's friends. NotC came on TV. My friend and I have seen NotC many times before being the 80's children we are but none of the younger guys in the room had seen it. We watched it from beginning to end and everyone was blown away. All the younger guys wanted to take their Holiday gift certificates and get it on DVD. So this morning I was checking to see if a DVD was available and I stumbled onto this board. I just wanted to say that NotC was one of my all time favorite movies growing up and it is awesome to see that after all these years th5b4e movie still has the same power it did in '84. I just wanted to let Kelli and everyone else know that there is a group of guys from NJ waiting to get our hands on NotC DVD. Hopefully MGM will realize that this movie is a classic and it should be available.
Thanks -

Hias fans of NOTC may already know, MGM has announced that it will release a DVD of the film in March of 2007. (I love how they are saying "a proper DVD" which is a phrase I used repeatedly, although what I meant was with extras and interviews, etc.) Always glad to share input, right?
Anyway, as some of you have asked, none of the cast will be paid for the DVD. I, at least, have never been paid for any film I have appeared5b4 in when it went to DVD.
That's nothing new, but I am glad that at last a DVD is available because I know it's been out of print and the VHS copies are really useless by now.
Have a great 2007! -

I love this movie! It's a classic and should have been released long ago. I hope they do add some extras on it. Sometimes those can be interesting. I will pre-order it ASAP. One for me and one for my sister, Sam. I won't even tell her I got her one I'll just let it arrive. She'll be thrilled! That really REALLY sucks that you guys don't get royalties for it. Next time put it in your contract! lol
I guess I can retire my old wobbly VHS copy I recorded off HBO so many years ago. lol
Happy New Year Everyone!
