OMG When I saw these pics of him I literally almost fell outta my chair and I had to show them to two of my co - workers! I can't believe THIS is the guy that played that FREAK Buffalo Bill! He's beefed up and handsome in these shots man!
I mean I know the movie was a while ago but stillhe literally did a MAJOR transformation.
Well at least I can still chuckle with the way he says, "Was she a great big fat person"? .LOL I dunno why but the way he says that line cracks me up every time!
And that chick that he held in the pit in the movie now plays that bitchy lesbo doctor who had a thing with Callie on Greys Anatomy now! Now I wanna keep her in that pit! haha just jokin.. -

I just want to know what idiots failed to recognize his performance in "Silence Of the Lambs" and give him a Best SupportingA Actor nod.
Excellent question! Like another previous poster said, the metamorphosis from Buffalo Bill to Captain Stottlemeyer is truly an example of an incredibly gifted actor.
AMAZING!
What, just for once in your life can't you be serious? -

I was watching Shutter Island and I kept asking myself "where have I seen this guy before??" over and over again. I finally had to cross-reference his name in IMDB to get it I, too said "OH!! It's Buffalo Bill from TSOTL!"
D'Oh!

my biggest complaint about the Oscars won by
Silence of the Lambs
is that as good a performance as Anthony Hopkins gave, he didn't deserve to win for Best Actor in a
Leading
Role
he only had roughly 20 minutes of screen-time
if Brian Cox hadn't had dropped out of the role, I wonder if he would've received the same recognition

Brian Cox was never offered the role in Silence. Different production team, different studio, etc and they were distancing themselves from Manhunter. As good as it is, it was a commercial failure. The studio that has made the Lector movies made Manhunter, Hannibal, Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising. After Manhunter did po5b4orly, they let MGM have Silence. Then took the series back after. So Cox wasn't even considered for the role of Lector.
