Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Charlie Kaufman

I saw Eternal Sunshine a long time ago, and I liked it. Saw BJM a few months ago and LOVED it. Then saw Synecdoche, NY and completely fell in love. That movie had a profound effect on me, and caused me to watch all of Kaufman's films. I even watched Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Human Nature, which I enjoyed both. But now that I'm done with all his films, and his next one won't come out for a bit, what do I move on to? I feel like there are lot of directors/writers with a similar style to his, but not quite. I find Kaufman's art very true to life, and he has a certain aspect to him that no one can capture or replicate.
I've moved on to some of Lynch and Cronenberg's works, and they have some really cool movies as well. But is anyone familiar with works similar to Kaufman's style? I'm really trying to look for movies like this, I'm seriously going through Kaufman withdrawl. I guess I'll just have to re-watch his movies over and over again.

I was part way through your post and thinking to myself "I'll recommend Lynch and Cronenberg", then I got to the final paragraph, LOL.
I'll have to watch the response you get, because I would really like to discover similarly written films, too.
In the meantime, you might do well reading books by Philip K. Di238ck, but something tells me you probably already have!

Thanks for the response. I've only seen a few of their films, but every time I've watched a Lynch or Cronenberg film my mind got seriously beep That's funny that you were about to recommend them.
And no, I haven't read any Philip K. Dick, but I've heard great things about his books. I've seen a couple films based on his stories, and I can already tell I'd like his style.

Well you should remember those films that you think are "Kaufmanesque." Of course I've already seen Stranger than Fiction, but thanks anyway. I can kind of see how you think that movie is "Kaufmanesque" though, with the dark humor and strange situations.
