I can only think of I heart huckabees and Stranger than fiction. Probably both were influenced by Kauffman. Anything earlier?

definetely stranger than fiction!!! it had the same feeling - i wish zach helm was writing more! though it's a bit lighter.
and I didn't notice it before but ck seems to get a lot of inspiration from fellini's 8 and a half (writer's crisis in adaptation and in synecdoche etc.) I wonder if he really is a fan or just asks the same questions about writer's identity and imagination.
I also feel that in some strange way (not directly obvious way though)his movies are similar to david lynch's earlier 90's works (he admitted to be a fan)but much lighter of course and terry gilliam's (also imagination bending films)
also tarsem's the fall - is much more colorful and closer to gilliam's style probably, but also blending imagination and reality
actually I wonder what would happen if kaufman ever collaborated with gilliam
but after all that ck's movies and style are hard to recreate - he just stands out
