What did or didn
t you like about him? Buffyfans seem to hate him, just because he was the first after Angel. In my opinion Parker had so much potential, he could have been Buffys Lover for that season, at least i liked them both together. -

He was probably important becuase it was the first example of Buffy being with someone that used her and that led to her later using Spike. It was kind-of like the de-evolution of Buffy which they later played on in the Beer Bad episode where she actually de-evolved into a cave woman after drinking enchanted beer.

Funny how you remember it. Why would Joss say that?
He said it in the Chosen DVD commentary while talking about Angel and Spike. As to why he said it, brace yourself..
Are you sure you want to know?
Here it is:
It was a joke.
Pain is to pleasure as disco is to punk. You need to live through one to fully appreciate the other. -

Joss Whedon said that during the commentary of the last Buffy episode, "Chosen". He was being sarcastic, commenting on the appearance of Angel in the first Act, then transitioning to her being with Spike. Joss said many fans wanted Buffy and Angel together, but he always held out hope for Parker (still being sarcastic). Sarah Michelle Gellar told Joss that she didn't think it was in Buffy's character to be with someone so soon after Angel left Buffy, but Joss told her that college is about doing stupid things and making mistakes. I think that was the point of her and Parker, how things can change in college and how you can make stupid choices.

I actually like Parker because Buffy really liked him and they were really cute together! It was a shame that he turned out to be a jerk though.
I would have much preferred B/P rather than Buffy/Riley. Riley is the only character in BtVS that I hated and I still don't like him now. -

I wasn't a fan of Riley too and I was happy when he left the story, and disappointed when he paraded his new wife back into town.
I also wasn't a fan of Tara, but when Willow found Kennedy, I missed Tara. I still don't like Kennedy.
In re watching the episodes, I like them both more than I did, but I still don't care for the episode when Riley comes back.
And I think Parker was important to the story, because Parker is the kind of guy most girls have to deal with at one point in their lives, someone who fakes it to get in your pants. If buffy never had someone like that, her love life would be too un relatable. I know I never had an Angel or a Riley or a spike, but I have had a few Parkers in my life. -

people hate him because hes a dick to buffy and he used her for sex and he picked up another chick in front of her and he broke her heart. does that sum it up? i like the actor though just not his character.
boo! you whore! -

Nah, it would've been too easy. I bet when his character was first created they planned on making him Buffy's main love interest, but I'm sure that later on they realized that the BtVS fans needed time to mourn Angel leaving. I agree he did seem like he had a ton of potential and I was pretty blind-sided when he turned into a butthead.

He never magically turned into a dick, it wasn't a change in his character. He was always a wanker, one of those guys who sleep with women and then dump them. Now there's nothing really wrong with one-night stands as long as both understand what it is, but he got women into his bed through lies and manipulation. Kaufman was fantastic in the role, even I was fooled by his act, and I'm a straight male.

I didn't like Parkerit was pretty obvious from the beginning that he was going to be a dick. But the character has no relation to my feelings for the actor. He did a good job portraying the full of himself moron that slept with women like they were nothing. He never liked her, and I don't think Joss ever intended for the relationship to be anything more than just the 'stupid mistake' Buffy made when she started school.
People always say they never liked Riley. I honestly liked Riley to start with because he was just what Buffy needed, a good guy who loved her and wanted to take care of her. He only had a rough time when he quit being all drugged up from The Initiative, because he wasn't close to being as strong as Buffy anymore. And REALLY he didn't turn out to be a jerk, he just wanted Buffy to make a commitment that she didn't realize she was ready to make until Xander talked to her, which ended up being too late. Buffy really did love him, and he was pretty g5b4ood for her EXCEPT that he was with the Initiative, and went back to them, and the whole letting vampires drink off you to get off thing.
AND NO MATTER WHAT, NO ONE COULD EVER EVER EVER REPLACE ANGEL FOR HER. Not even Spike who ended up being totally in love with her. -

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Although I don't know if Spike was ever going to replace Angel. I think he was something different for Buffy and she has a different kind of love for him than she does for Angel or for Riley.
And I think Adam did a great job in the role. It's just that the guy he played was a total douchebag. -

parker could never replace angel, scott could never replace angel, spike could never replace angel, riley could never replace angel. first love first of all, angel was also her perfect protector, until angelus appearedbut who knew? this maybe the best storyline i've ever seen on tv, or the movies for that matter. a love she could never have yet a love that couldn't be forgotten. i personnally believe that "buffy" is one of most tragegic characters in tv history; why do you think they have actual college courses on "buffy"? btw, park was a total ass. joss is fanastic, i hope dollhouse is as good. the last few seasons of " buffy" were so so, i think mainly because joss had too many projects going, firefly was sort of dismal, angel still rocked and should have had at least one more seasoni'm done
