Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Katy Jurado

Does anyone else think she was superb, as well as the quintessential femme fatale in this? Ms. Jurado was always fascinating to watch in anything, but unfortunately -at least in most of his best known movies- she was usually given supporting roles. Well, this time she was the leading lady (and WHAT a leading lady!), and did a terrific, memorable job.

I've seen that movie many times. Her performance won her an Ariel Awards (Mexican Oscars) and premiered in many film festivals around the world.
To play a role like this back in the 50s Mexican era was jaw dropping. And she out did herself.

Well, so glad to learn that her magnificent performance was awarded in Mxico! She was very brave to have played such an audacious role back then, just another reason to love her even more so.

She also won the Golden Globe for her role in High Noon, making her the first and only Mexican-born female actor to win a Golden Globe. (I'm sure you know this). And she was a strong runner up nominee for the Oscars but failed to earn a nomination.
Rumors and theories are that she was nominated in 1955 for her role in Broken Lance because she b68was not nominated for High Noon in 1953.

I would swear that Katy was nominated for "High Noon", too! Either case, she deserved to be nominated for both, that's for sure. I'm much more familiar with her work in Mxico than in Hollywood, but I have no doubt that in the latter she gave at least half-a-dozen performances that deserved Oscar nominations. She was always captivating on screen and had such a distinctive star quality.
