one of the first things they need to do is to distance themselves from fruitcakes like Jackson, Trump, Coulter, Beck, O'Reilly, and Limbaugh. Seriously. Moderate Democrats or Independents who might otherwise lean right refuse to do so for the fear/shame of being associated with these hate-filled lunatics. It's going to be tough for the Republican party to ever win another electionand you have Ms. Jackson to partly thank for that.

I agree with you. Not so much just about Vicky herself, but those extremists seem to be the norm now, ever since 2008/09 we've become so polarized and politically divided. It's sad how we can't compromise and work together anymore.
Though I can't blame the left-leaning moderates, because the right is too close-minded to reason with. Even if you agree with them on a few things and try and meet them halfway, it's not good enough. They're like a 4 year old who throws a temper tantrum if they don't get it all their way. Like you said, even the right-leaning moderates will be scared off out of not wanting to be lumped in with the crazies, and I don't blame them a bit.
The moderate, reasonable Republicans like Rudy Giuliani or an Independent like Ron Paul (they're just examples) who tend to be socially liberal and more fiscally conservative, are getting pushed out by the extremist religious right/Faux News conservatives who are so focused on personal "wedge issues" like stopping gay marriage (and all homosexuality peroid), and pushing to recriminalize ALL abortions after 40 years. While they won't come out and directly say it, I'm sure they don't want America to be anything except white, straight and Christian.
They probably rip on moderate conservatives as much as on Democrats, calling them RINOs if they're not far-right enough to their liking. What's ironic is that they worship Reagan, yet he himself would probably be considered a RINO today too!
