Tom "Sugarfoot"Brewster, a Western character Will Hutchins portrayed, used his wits to beat the bad guy(s). If things escalated, instead of a gun, he used a rope. If you've ever tried to use a lasso, it's a whole lot trickier to subdue somebody that way than with a firearm. And though there were no doubt a few times I yelled at the screen for Sugarfoot to get his rifle (not sure he ever did), I always admired him. Even though it was good make believe adventure, I'm betting, especially in that era when macho was still king, not many actors would've been willing to seem a pacifist type on such a regular basis. Not long after the SUGARFOOT TV series, peaceniks & flower power swept the US in the 1960's. In his own way, Will Hutchins was in the avant garde, showing kids an alternative to shooting people as a solution. Thanks, Hutch.
