Love him but his arrogant attitude towards playing Jason annoys me

I really do enjoy Kane Hodder. He's a fine actor/stunt man, but let's be honest, at the end of the day he played a guy who's face is covered by a mask and the only thing he brought to his films were breathing hard, angry/intense staring, and aggressive action in his kills. That does not make him the DEFINITIVE ACTOR who played Jason Voorhees!
I mean, it's a horror franchise, a B-Horror franchise to be completely honest! He wasn't the first, and he won't be the last to play the part. Look at how many actors played the Frankenstein monster: Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, Christopher Lee, David Prowse, Robert De Niro, and that list goes on and will continue to go on!
With these types of films, there is no definitive actor, only preferred actors based on the fans choice, and that it is a case by case basis. Same with characters like Dracula, the wolf man, and hell, in 50 years, Freddy Krueger & Jason Voorhees.
Also he acts like he really brought a "true" performance to the character. What about other actors that had their face covered during a performance? Tom Hardy as Bane (The Dark Knight Rises)? Hugo Weaving as V (V For Vendetta)? David Prowse as Darth Vader (Star Wars)? Or actors that played silent (or may as well have been silent) characters? Kristian Nairn (Hodor in Game of Thrones)? Those were powerful performances.
While Kane definitely contributed to the character and put his stamp on it, I was fine when the character was re-cast and played by other people, just as I was fine with the character being played by different people prior to him. His attitude towards his take on the character in interviews/conventions just comes off as really pretentious, arrogant, and disrespectful to the MANY other actors that ALSO played the character BEFORE & AFTER him. -

You raised some interesting points, I think with Kane it's a few elements that make him pivotal in the role.
- Purely the length of time he's played the character, basically if you saw a Friday movie from the 80's till now there was a good chance you saw Kane. Part VII Part VIII Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X, and even now he's playing Jason for the video game.
- He's one of the few actors to actually admit to loving playing the role, and going after the role when a new film comes ups.
- His personality really feeds into the character, when you know he's this wacky guy and then his burn accident, and the fact he's had the word kill tattooed on his lip just makes it seem right that he plays Jason.
- He's also I think the only actor to play Jason and a character where you can see is face as a "normal" human in a Friday the 13th film. (the security guard in part 9)
- Plus small things like keeping the make up on during location shooting in times square, and scaring visitors to the set in full costume.
I don't really think there as been a really rubbish Jason, and nearly every actor brings something to the part, I guess it's personal taste at the end of the day or at least it should be.

Kane played Jason better than anyone. He is one of the few guys who can ACT behind a mask and not even talk. His look was the best Jason ever and his body was perfect. Jason did look like a skinny bitch just like he said in Jason vs Freddy. I am not okay with recasting him, those other films sucked because it was just a big dumb guy behind the mask. You probably wont see many more friday films but Kane will always be Jason. For as scary as he is the guy goes out of his way to help others and from what I hear he is a super nice dude who just likes to have fun with the whole Jason thing, it's more than just another role to him. I wish I would have met him, I almost did at a show once but didn't get there in time. Hopefully if they make another they call him.
