Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mamie Gummer

    RuthClaudette — 18 years ago(October 15, 2007 10:09 AM)

I feel like one of the only people on the planet whose seen this movie, and whats more, love it!! For those who dont know, its got Mamie as like a 1 1/2 year old playing Meryl's character Rachel's, baby, Annie.
Its funny, coz i kept wondering why on earth the baby (Mamie) called Meryl 'Mama' how would they train a baby to do that? And she was credited Natalie Stern or summin instead of Mamie Gummer nah, but it were proper mom n child HAHAHAHAHA with the fabulous Jack Nicholson playing the cheating dad, Mark.
Honestly, i've seen this film like a dozen times. I suppose i love it coz its like a really, really good tv drama and Jack and Meryl are so funny and brilliant on screen together!!!!!! and baby Mamie's real sweet, but t2000hen again, what baby isn't?!?! random comment, but theres this todler i know who was the UGLIEST baby EVER well, apart from my sister who was nicknamed 'dumper-truck' (!) by my mom coz she was so ugly when she was born all wrinkly. urgh. of course, i on the other hand was beautiful!! 😄

LOL I have seen this. i have seen this likecountless times. lol This is one of my favorite movies EVER! She was so preyy in that movie, especialy considering the fact that she was like 7 monthspregnant in the movie. And the scene where Rachael leaves to go talk to that guy about gettig her job back, and Annie is crying for her? And calling her mammathat was soooooooo cute!! I was thinkin the only thing they " trained" her to do, was the clap thing, and you can totally see where they cut and reshot it. AND, I LOVE how Mery is trying so hard in the movie to make the " itsy bitsy spider" thing part of the movie, because it was a big plot for the movie, and Mamie is just " no mom.I want your glasses" lol
        " AGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN"

I'm pretty sure she was credited with a different name not because they didn't know. I read somewhere that the girl who was supposed to play the daughter wasn't able to for some reason so Meryl just brought Mamie in. They probably just forgot to change the name on the papers or something. Either way I love this movie! I've seen in about ten times I think and the whole movie is just so great!

It's not uncommon for small children of celebrities to be credited with a name that's not their own in films. This especially doesn't surprise me in Meryl's case, as she was always a strong believer in keeping her children out of the public eye.

I love this movie too. I've seen it twice on youtube.com and love it so I ordered it. But in the movie Mamie is about three because Meryl was already about ready to have Grace Gummer. But I have to admit she's adorable in the film. The en2000d though was soo cute, LOVE it.

She was credited under the name Natalie Stern to avoid press scrutiny.

Love Heartburn, one of my 80s favorites and an underrated Meryl performance. I knew her daughter played her daughter, so cute!
