Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Alex Garland

    NickWiz — 21 years ago(February 04, 2005 11:01 PM)

In a million dollar deal, Microsoft has hired Alex "28 days Later" Garland to adapt their highly successful videogame "Halo" into script.
Once the screenplay is done it will be shopped to studios as an all in one package: script & rights..
I only hope he can do justice to this film.. 28 days later was good, the beach was good. so i have high hopes.

I wasnt a fan of the film version of the beach but the book was fantastic, tesserac (spelling?) was good and i've not read 28 days later but thought the film was good. Halo is awesome. With the right director etc this could amazing. There is already characters and a basic framework for Garland to work with but this could be amazing, i have high hopes.

i thought the beach was a bad film in comparison to the book but the screen play wasnt written by him. i loved 28 days later it had alex garland written all over it.

halo is a video game. Its about a supr soldier, nown only as Master Chief who leads a furture Earth into battle against a group of Alien races known as the Covenent. Halo is a ring planet that is actually a WMD in disguise.

Here's a review of the script from a pretty reputable site.

I think choosing Alex Garland was brilliant. Anyone who read "The Beach" would know that. He will definately produce an actually intelligent script, instead of one where 98% of the film is fighting.

Well, for all you people who don't know, Alex was recently replaced I know this because I was just talking with Josh Olson, who wrote "A History of Violence," and he is apparently the new writer for the project. Peter Jackson offered it to him and, as he said, "you can't say no to Peter Jackson." Ciao

That's a shame. I just saw Sunshine at the weekend and thought it was amazing, as was 28 Days Later. I really hope they use Garland's script.

Garland's script was pretty good. I just finished reading it. I could really imagine the movie in my head, and even managed to think of a few choice cast members. I haven't read the new versions if they're finished or if they even exist, but if the finished project was going to be anything like this, than I think it would be a pretty good success.
