I went to see Ex Machina in the cinema. I couldn't believe it, so bought the blu ray. I still cannot believe it even more now. If someone was raped and an ambulance was called, the victim then kills the rapist and when the ambulance arrives, they also kill the ambulance driver. That's about the same story as this thing. Caleb was nothing but good to Ava, Nathan got what he deserved, understandably so. Why kill Caleb, who wasn't bad? Why trap him inside a building that, even with his immense amount of intelligence, he has no chance of ever escaping? He will obviously die an interminably slow and painful death. If this is top-rated Sci-Fi, you can keep it. Like I say in the title, I'm not surprised you can't write to Mr Garland, as I feel a bit like Caleb. I have sat and watched this twice. Both times I have been robbed of the amount of time it took to watch it. Time I will never get back. All I can say to Mr Garland is, you must really hate people to write stuff like this! Why make a movie that looks great on the outside, but is just made to leave a nasty taste in the mouth? I just watched "Never Let Me Go" this week too. That also has something nasty about it, with one girl 'stealing' the boyfriend of her supposed friend. I'm obviously missing the point. There are people who love this stuff, movies that are made to anger and upset. What's the point of it? This isn't entertainment. It's the sort of stuff that make people anxious and depressed. Why did I watch it twice? Just because I was sure I missed something. I didn't. It is just as bad as I remember. If I ever watched it again, I would probably consider throwing myself off a bridge or something, as this is the most depressing, angering rubbish I have ever seen! Yes, if you are even interested, I have had both severe anxiety and clinical depression. Thank God I'm not in a major bout of that at the moment!

I think it was due to the reality of the aftermath. Nobody knows what went on there. The only two people who knew are dead. The AI was probably capable of thinking ahead. Thinking humans would terminate them. Or perhaps the AI thought that Caleb was tricking her, using her with Nathan's help. Not impossible for her to think that. She has already built up a distrust for Nathan it seemed.
Another theory is that Garland just wanted a spooky ending. For us to buy the thought that there could be AI among us and we wouldn't know. Either way it makes perfect sense and I think it's a terrific movie!
