Can someone please fill me in as to why was he called Dr. Bombay? Is there some story behind it since I dont have access to the episodes. Was it ever mentioned ever as to how did he get the name and how did the character end up with the series finale?
Thanks! Any help is appreciated immensely!

I think it was just a humorus cultural reference. His charachter was that of an old stodgy Englishman. And Bombay (today we call it Mumbai) India was ruled for a long time by old stody colonial Englishmen so I think thats where they get the name "Bombay" Gin too.

I think he was called Dr. Bombay because he was a Doctor and his parents last name was Bombay.

"Calling Dr. Bombay" just sounds funny. I don't think there was more to it than that.

Could it be because Bernard Fox is the type of Englishman who you would expect to drink Bombay gin and tonic?
