Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jon Favreau

    racl_101 — 9 years ago(April 15, 2016 10:33 AM)

I watched a few episodes of Dinner for Five on YouTube, good show btw, and I couldn't believe how much of a blowhard Kevin Smith was towards Jon. Interjecting, correcting and calling Jon out about how he can't stop talking about his first big movie ("Swingers") which is ironic because Kevin keeps revisiting Clerks in conversation as well. Clearly these two strong personalities clashed and they're both guys who talk a lot, except that Kevin is way more arrogant than he should be given his body of work.
Fast forward 10 years later and Jon Favreau is clearly killing it: he helped mastermind the lynchpin movie for the MCU Iron Man. That is huge, it's monumental. Iron Man (2008) is what BvS is to DC. So many big things depend on it and Jon nailed it.
And now Jon seems to be doing the same with The Jungle Book.
Meanwhile Kevin Smith seems to be making more and more movies that nobody watches. His last big movie was, arguably, Zack and Miri (2008). Same year that Jon put out Iron Man.

Funny because I just started watching Dinner for Five and really enjoy Jon as the host.
Soon as I clicked on one with Kevin Smith as the host, he started off with some obnoxious line against Jon Favreau and I switched it off. Everything about him pisses me off.
Kevin Smith is probably jealous because Jon Favreau directed a better comic book movie than he would ever be able to make.

And what's funnier is that Kevin fan5b4cies himself as some sort of ambassador for nerddom and he talks about this Superman reboot he was hired to write awhile ago (like 15 years ago) like it would've been really good but ultimately went nowhere. And in the end, it's people like Jon who are making it happen.

Yeah that's the one thing I hate about Kevin Smith so much. He's acts like he's the all speaking god of people with certain interests.
If he's reading this, you're not dude, get over yourself.
Comic Book Men is just a show with you and bragging rights.

Oh and for reference I mean this video:
            about 3:25 mark.
But it's not an isolated incident. There's other times where Kevin just goes off on or about Jon for no reason.
