I SO looked forward to watching "Burn Notice" when it first came out..BUT he acts THE SAME.OPEN YOUR beep mouth and add some emotion and personality into your speaking!

That's the way the character is written - spy that doesn't show emotions. When JD is being Michael and not superspy Michael you can see the difference. Can been seen especially in scenes with Maddie (Sharon Gless) and in season 5 & 6.
As for his acting range - BN may not be to your taste but check him out in Touching Evil and his film works. He has quite a range.

He's horrible in the first couple of seasons but I have to say he gets better as time goes by.. maybe he's really absorbing this Westen character
