Why is he no longer on Scandal?

I know. I saw him on Fringe so I looked up to see what he had done lately. When I saw he was on Scandal I decided to give it a try, but if he's off nowMeh. I guess they never explained it either, on the show or otherwise. I have no desire to watch The Mentalist and otherwise it looks like he is doing "B" type movies. What is up? I loved him so much as Desmond on Lost. I know it can hurt some actors when they are so identified with a role. I hope he finds a good role because I will watch.

To redlioness8, how they explained his leaving: He "loooved" his women and when he got engaged he always questioned if he could be faithful and it ended up he couldn't. He told his fianc and with his engagement broken, he told Olivia (always his confidant) that he needed to get away, get his head together, figure his life out, blah, blah, blah. And, the way he left does leave it open for a possible return!!! I'm a huge Scandal fan and I never paid attention to him before and was beside myself when he didn't return!

He quit the show. And I think it was because he wasn't happy about the development of his character and the show. Maybe there was a little bit of jealousy about how the show began to focus in on Olitz. Supposedly, originally that was only supposed to be a small piece of the show, but with all the excitement, that become the foreground. In the early episodes it seemed like Abby had a thing for him, but he had a thing for Olivia even though he was engaged. The writers we7ecre definitely trying to develop a possible love triangle, but it fizzled and they went the way of Fitz.
Also, take a look at that TV Guide interview from the first season (where TG is flirting with KW), the segments that HIC filmed with the rest of the OPA cast. Notice how miserable he looks, like he's literally thinking, "WTF am I doing here at the kids' table?" -

Yeah, he probably expected to get more screen time. Instead, he was just playing a minor character doing Olivia's dirty work, while the attention was focused on the White House and Olitz. I guess he thought he could do better elsewhere. That's too bad, because Scandal is a hit show and will probably last for many years. But still, with all the guest-star roles he's been doing lately and all the movies he has lined up, I'd say he's doing fine anyway.

It was supposedly a combination of things. He didn't like the diminished role of his character and the producers reportedly wouldn't let him off to do a role in The Hobbit.
He also was unenthusiastic about his promotional duties for the show.
He started sulking and creating tension on the set and they let him go. -

I watched the first episode of season 2 of Scandal today (also mainly watched for him because I liked him on Lost) and I thought without him there it just wasn't the same. It felt lacking and as much as I like Olivia and Fitz together I liked him in it too.
real human being and a real hero
