Chris Kyle only became a Seal at 30, which is very old. Bradley is the same age(When they filmed the movie) as when Chris died.
It spans several years, but I don't see an issue with him playing 30-38 through the majority of the film.

Yet they use kids in their early/mid 20s to represent high school students in other shows/films.

However, there have been some movies with late teen age people playing high school kids. Brad Renfro was 14 when he played a high school senior in Apt. Pupil (1998).
