The documemtary sought to prove that the official version of events - that nine 'Al Quaeda' terrorists had hijacked planes on the orders of a group headed by Osama Bin Laden and crashed them into the twin towers - was the truth and that, though they exploited it to the full militarily and economically, the American and British governments had nothing to do with the atrocities.
The film showcased what it called "9/11 conspiracy theorists" and attempted to undermine the principal theories that, at the very least, the Bush administration had allowed the events of 9/11 to happen or that the President and his colleagues had lanned and orchestrated the attacks for their own economic ends or advancement of a long term plan to build a totaliterian government.
The makers of the 'Horizon' programme did and do not like these theories and created the aura of sober objectivity, mainly with Caroline Catz' policewoman-giving-bad news voice.
On three occasions, injected at points in the film where the more startling conspiracy allegations were given or shots of 9/11 debris were wheeled out, Catz emoted "will the families of the victims ever be allowed their peace?"
Well, it was not Alex Jones, nor Dylan Avery - director of 'Loose Change', the least sensational of the 9/11 "conspiracy" films - who wheeled out victims' relatives or survivors to churn up their past. This film did, the overall message being that we should accept the official verdict on the disaster because the families will be upset if we don't.
How crass - and insulting to the memories of those who died. If there is a glimmer of truth to verdicts other than the official then I cannot think of a reason not to listen to all voices on the matter. In this respect, the 'Horizon' programme was in default.
There was no mention, for example, of the victims and survivors' groups who subscribe utterly to the belief that 9/11 was a piece of self-inflicted warfare. No mention, either, of the stakes that the Carlyle Group - a conglomerate of shareholders in arms trading and real estate (including the World Trade centre)- had in the disaster and the military-industrial "fruits" of that day.
There was no mention, as is documented, that building 7 had had an insurance policy taken out upon it by the owner - a member of the Carlyle group and friend of the Bush administration - one month before the disaster. No mention of the fact - the fact - that middle-eastern and asian suspects were rounded up by the FBI purely because of their race, while Bin-Laden's family was flown out of the country.
No mention of the firemen's testimony that explosive charges were detonated as they attempted to rescue people trapped in teh Twin towers.
The 'Horizon' documentary was patronising, hypocritical - debunking the youth of Dylan Avery the 'Loose Change' director, while accepting fully the speculation of the twenty-something journo on 'Practical Mechanic' - described as "no nonsense" by the less than impartial narrator.
The final jarring blow delivered to teh "9/11 Truth Movement" was the delivery of a story that people from Alex Jones through to Michael Moore have themselves debunked. That three thousand jewish men and women working in th World Trade Centre were warned of the 9/11 attacks. The documentary wickedly showcased this as if Alex Jones and Dylan Avery subscribed to it, the filmma1c84kers even bringing a weeping relative of a Jewish businessman to "ground zero" to castigate "thos conspiracy theorists". A low blow indeed.
'9/11' was the day our political masters revealed that they still use the same tactics Nicolo Machiavelli set down, in their pursuit of power.
No amount of intellectual snobbery on the BBC's part, or the possibility that this was a Blairite memo made flesh can hide the truth.

I've been informed via my Dick Cheney brand nasal implant that the black helicopters have been dispatched to take you to the secret re-edumacation camp located in the cone of Mt. Saint Helens (which is the volcano's stage name, real name; Mt. Ethel Greenbaum). Please remain standing. No, a little more to the left.
