Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Hugh Keays-Byrne

just out of curiosity, what is his heritage in terms of ethnicity? It's clear he was born in India but IMDb does not list any other pertinent information. I'm assuming half Indian or Bengali, combined with other race(s). His role as Toecutter in 1979's Mad Max however was one of the best roles all time in film, imho. Still have people marveling at that role today, 35 years later.

Not sure, but he definitely seems to be part of a white race.

India gained independence from Great Britain in 1947, the year Keays-Byrne was born. Odds are there were still many Britons and members of other Commonwealth nations living in India at that time. Just because he was born there does not mean he had Indian heritage. Hugh looks pure Anglo-Saxon to me.
