Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Bobby Brown

Even though I'm a huge Bobby Brown/New Edition fan, I couldnt stand Bobby for awhile due to his arrogance some years ago. I recall an interview he had sometime in the 1990s where he complained about having to do shows with New Edition claiming that he alone was as big if not a bigger draw then they were.
Fast forward to the present, the situation is clearly reversed as he's barely the performer he once was and his singing voice is practically non-exsistant and its kind of embarrassing to hear him try to sing while the other guys still harmonize so well.

He abused his body with too much junk food and start gaining weight in 1992. Before that, even 1991, he was very trim and his image was close to perfect. He also abused his singing voice with copious amounts of crack.
When he did the reunion tour in 1996, although he was doing drugs, the damage hadn't caught up yet and he s5b4till sounded pretty good.
Karma is a little tough on Bobby though. He's clearly had a lot of personal issues and he married someone who wasn't right for him and put his career on hiatus starting in 1989 when more singles and albums were planned. This meant he took his eye off things, his next album would have been as big, instead it never got released and we got the rather tame 1992 album instead.
Bobby obviously suffered from depression due to his marriage and career decline. Alcoholics and drugs users use because they are bored, lonely and depressed. Bobby had it all at one point and very few soar so high and fall so far.

Bobby decline started when he met Whitney. He was basically p-whipped. She introduced Bobby to crack and made him an addict. When you have millions and you are a drug addict a lot of bad things happen. Bobby is lucky to be alive. He could have easily OD'ed
