First was Luke Halpin from "Flipper," and then it was Doug McClure and Randy Boone from "The Virginian." All blond, and all extremely goodlooking.
But I adored Randy Boone, because he not only acted in a sweet, self-effacing way, but he played guitar. How can a girl not lose her heart?
I just wish there were more information about him online. For instance, did he give up on Hollywood, or did it give up on him? It's not the first time - by a long shot - that Hollywood shot itself in the foot.
If Mr. Boone is out there and happens to see this - thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. You gave me many wonderful hours of enjoyment when I was a teen. I was a cowboy-mad, horse-mad, Western-mad girl who'd spend most of her summers chasing her cowgirl dreams on various ranches and camps out West and in the East, where I lived.
That was truly a special era and such a short one. The Vietnam war brought far more serious considerations, and we had to grow up quickly.
I wish you well, Mr. Boone, and hope your life has been a happy one. -

I just had the pleasure of meeting Randy Boone at the Western Film Fair in Winston Salem, NC. We were both raised and now live in Fayetteville, NC. He was very friendly and took the time to speak with me and a couple of friends of mine for at least thirty minutes. He told us his story of hitchhiking across the country with his guitar when he decided there was something more to life for him. He spoke very fondly of his days in Hollywood and seems to be doing quite well these days. It was great visit, his hometown is proud of him.
