Paul Birch died fairly young on the island of Grenada in 1969. Does anyone know the circumstances of his death?

Thank you very much for letting me know. My grandfather died from the same cause in 1983.

It was years ago, but sorry to hear that. I just watched your dad in Queen Of Outer Space and had to look into his early death since they listed his birth and date of death. Way to soon to go.

Paul Birch (b. Paul Smith) was my father. He died at age 57 on the island of Grenada. The disease from which he suffered was Lymphosarcoma (sp?). Cancer of the lymph nodes. I was with him at the time of his death.

Thank you for letting me know. Did your father adopt the stage name of Birch because of the other Paul Smith who appeared on the Doris Day Show many years ago?

The stage name Paul Birch was adopted by my father at least by the early 50s. I don't know why it was chosen by him. He may have had help from his early agent, Jean Haliburton (sp?) The Doris day show was on in the late 60s. A good friend of my father's, Denver Pyle was in some episodes.

Denver Pyle was great! The other Paul Smith is still living. For some unknown reason he truncated his film career many years before retirement. He specialized in playing goofy characters.

I loved your dad in the SciFi movies he did, he was The Rock in most of them . He was also in one my all time favorite classics, It's a mad mad mad mad World. Just saw it again 2 days ago.
                      Best wishes.
