I watch a lot of movies and I like that out of all of them, there are a few that are different, and it's those seem to entertain me the most. The fact that his are some of the only movies where the dialog is flat, the quirky characters are undeveloped and one dimensional, and the style of the sets, settings and cinematography is so strikingly simple and unrealistic, makes his movies stand out from all of the others. Every other movie maker tries to get deep into the back story and thoughts of its characters. And many fail. Instead, Wes Anderson movies are like fleeting glimpses of an odd bunch of characters of which we are only supposed to notice in passing. His movies are more like poems than novels. For him art is in the telling of the story, far more than story itself. If his were the only movies in the world, then the industry would be in a sorry place. But his aren't. There are lots of places to get more character development, more depth in character, and more substance over style. There are only a few that look at life in a drastically different way than all the other movie makers. For those who want that occasional change of pace, Wes Anderson movies are awesome.

For me they deliver genuine emotion- from comedy to reflection. They're like cozy hugs & sandpaper- not at once, yet in the same melange.
I love Murray's line from The Life Aquatic
'This is an adventure.'
. I think that might be my new favourite film line ever.

Nobody is saying WA is the greatest serious film maker. His style of writing and directing is original. But that isn't so important. If you sit and actually watch his films, and pay close attention, yet fail to be moved by them, then it's obvious you've never been in love before.

In a way, you're half right. He's only RECENTLY gained the experience needed to be a master filmmaker. Everything prior to that was him still experimenting and learning. I just think he took longer than most master filmmakers took to practice and experiment prior to going in full force. With his 3 most recent films (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel) he's finally done experimenting and has finally come to understand what techniques work and don't work, hence those three stand far above everything prior to those films and likely all future films of his will match in overwhelming quality, if not exceeding those 3.
