Saw her the other night on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" ("The Man From the South") with McQueen and Peter Lorre. I know she was a dancer by trade, but she was definitely a good actress, as well.

I saw that when it first came on and was so excited to be seeing Steve McQueen and his real life wife!!! That was really good and she should have done morewith and/or without Steve. It was a different time and that is what women did at that time and knowing Stevethat is what he expected her to do. He was making the money now, she never wanted for anything except his faithfulness.

She was the one who was successful first and supported McQueen during his early years of unemployment and struggling. Also Steve, originally didn't force her to give up her career. She did it voluntarily. It wasn't his unfaithfulness that led to their divorce. Neile she was pretty secure in her role as not just the mother of his kids, but also the woman most responsible for his success and the one he always came to for advice. It was his later psychotic jealousy and physically violent and abusive nature, probably brought on by too much alcohol and cocaine use. "King of Cool" he certainly was ANYTHING BUT in real life, he was just another MACHO and violent guy. SHE was actually the "Queen of Cool" for real, but nobody knew about it. The public persona had overtaken the reality. Neile's autobiography of her and Steve's life's together is one of the best written of its kind, a real "work" in its own right, as valuable and artistic in its own way as any of Steve's famous Hollywood movies.
