Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Barry Watson

I live in Australia but loved 'What About Brian' and was thankful it was one of the US shows that filtered down to us here. Now I'm very ticked off that it's been axed. I'm sick of death and 'mutilated womens unit' tv shows, and sick of characters my age being aholes I can't (and wouldn't want to) relate to, or being pushed into the background whilst older ones keep hogging the storyline and the focus until their dying day.
I loved seeing a show for MY generation about the people whose friends ARE their family, where characters of my age made their own decisions in a way I could relate to. And I liked being represented by people who are attractive.
I heard they cancelled Jericho too. Anything else? Would somebody like to kill off the Winchester boys whilst they're at it? And hey they'd better keep Tom Welling off the small screen too.
We have to go to make room for their tween offspring.
    No-ones interested in us.

Although I'm not a viewer of Jericho, from what i've read and heard, they have ressurected Jericho after fans of the show send peanuts to the head honchos at CBS. But i think you're right about WAB because i saw a preview for a show in the fall that had Barry Watson as the lead (or one of the leads) which is sad because i thoroughly enjoyed WAB.

i think they cancelled because the show was going to nowhere and all the episodes where about sex i think a 9 years old kid can write a better tv show
the episode of today is about..SEX!
next episode coming the next week is about .. SEX!

The major problem with the show was that there was no continuity between the characters and their storylines. Characters came and went almost arbitrarily with little explanation. Continutiy is very important if you want to hold viewers' interest. It's a shame really because the show started off well, then slowly but surely fell apart.

I can't disagree on the continuity point. In many ways, I think this was more like real life in that way (though obviously not in many others) with a group of friends who actually have lives outside of the time the spend with each other. But like you said, that doesn't necessarily make for better ratings.
I think the biggest thing that killed WAB was Marjorie leaving. Obviously having an amazingly beautiful woman on brings eyeballs, but her character was very much the opposite of Tiffany Amber Theison who was added later. And so much of the original premise of the show was the love triangle/unrequited love between Marjorie, Brian and Adam. Sure in real life, it would be great to see people move on with their lives after something like that. In the fictional, tv world, viewers have shown over and over again that the like the tension of those things to go on - at least for awhile.

You know, the way the CW is heading, it looks like they're want to axe the Winchesters. Whom I love with all my heart.
Don't they know it's suicide putting Supernatural on Thursdays agaisnt Grey's and CSI?
                  Silly, Silly people.
Those TV bigwigs need to get some sense smacked into them.
