    Were his parents from Ireland? You could hear the Irish in his accent whenever he spoke. That is when he wasn't Archie Bunker from Queens or Chief Gillespie from Mississippi.

      I believe both of his parents were from Ireland. Also, Carroll went to college in Dublin (University College Dublin) and was married in Dublin.
      Actually, a lot the slang and phrases he used on AITF had to originate from O'Connor because they were used by native Irish. "Shut up, you" was the most often used.
