She was an OK actress. Not exceptional. She wasn't really that pretty. Most of her movies were her playing, or trying to play, the lovable clumsy chick.
Dieing young-ish really does wonders for some people I guess. -

She was an OK actress. Not exceptional
Her range absolutda0ely WAS exceptional in my opinion, and how else should we judge what a good actor is if not becoming (a range of) other people?
She wasn't really that pretty
At her peak she was gorgeous for me. I prefer her earlier looks, not least because I prefer dark hair.
Most of her movies were her playing, or trying to play, the lovable clumsy chick.
How many have you seen? Like I said, the big thing about her for me was her range. I can't think of anyone better at doing a rom-com but then totally disappearing any association with that lightweight persona into a dramatic role. -

The way she went out is really sad and created sympathy for her. She seemed to be a sweet gal and it's really awful to have seen her and her family go down publicly.
She wasn't an outstanding actress but she was always good and has several movies that have aged nicely or have settled in with the right crowd. I like Brittany Murphy, I have no reason not to

Who is an outstanding actress in your view? To stand out to most people requires a standout role. To me she WAS outstanding at disappearing into a role, even if it was a small role or not in a great movie. And at being versatile, that's how I mostly evaluate acting.

She was a lovely actress. She really became what she acted. I was very moved by her performances in Deadline, Uptown Girls, Little Black Book, The Ramen Girl and even Clueless. for years I was quoting her lines from that movie. She seemed to be very genuinely kind to her fans and interviewers on the red carpet. An open book. I think the criticism hurt her deeply. But she always seemed to laugh it off in interviews. If heaven is real I hope she's found some peace there.
