i know this subject was brought up back in March when the ever-so-talented Anthony Minghella died so unexpectedly, but i thought i'd start a new thread today, having just learned this week of his passing
don't know how i missed it before - i don't think the media made a real big deal about it here in the U.S. - or if they did, i just didn't catch it
all that said, i think it's terribly ironic that Mr. M wrote & directed
Truly, Madly, Deeply
18 years ago when he was only 36 hears old! it was almost prophetic, don't you think? i wonder if deep down in his talented soul he felt that he wouldn't "live old", and that he wrote it for those he left behind so that they may better cope?
in an interview with him about
"Truly"
he said he didn't realize the impact his movie would have, and that it's actually been used as a tool in classes for people who have to deal with the unexpected death of a loved one

is one of my all-time favorite flix and in honor of Anthony, i plan to watch it again very soon!
i don't know why i'm so touched by this news - it's not like he's a family member or a personal friend, but it just makes me very sad
why is it that the good die young, and the evil just seem to go on and on?
EDITING NOTE:
as i mentioned above, in my earlier post, i planned to watch "Truly, Madly, Deeply"
well, i did watch it last nite and i had totally forgotten the cause of death of the main character, Jamie (played so beautifully by Alan Rickman) was "complications from a sore throat"
OMG - now that is really a bizarre coincidence! Anthony M died from "complications related to the removal of a cancerous growth on his tonsils"
i just found myself shaking my head and thinking how prophetic this whole movie was to the untimely death of the talented Mr. M! Jamie could have died from any number of things, auto accident, cancer, etc. etc., but to die from "complications from a sore throat" is just soooo weird!
again, i found myself wondering if somewhere deep down in his soul Anthony M knew he would die an untimely death - and how it would happen(this was, in fact, the first movie he wrote & directed when he was just 36 years old)
i'm probably reading too much into this, but it really is strange - and sad, too -

Amen - I'm 38 and work in the film industry. It has no reason but the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long (Blade Runner). I have seen the corpse of humans live till 95 and did nothing for 40 years - go out in a blaze of glory

absolutely!! given my druthers, i'd prefer to live to a ripe old age - whether being productive or just hangin' out (in my
very
old age) - watching t.v. & surfin' the net to keep my brain cells moving around!
life may be crazy sometimes, and the world may be upside down most of the time, but i want "my candle" to burn for a very long time!

sadly, he died at the age of 38 from an inoperable brain tumori've loved his work since i was a very young girl, and often wondered what else he could have created had he "lived old"
but the world would never know because, as you said, the candle burned out

OMG, filmbforever, i am sooooo sorry! i thought of that as i was typing his agei guess i could have just said he was "very young"
