What about Melania?
She even helped her parents become citizens using a pathway that Trump criticized:

Is he doing this because it is what HE wants or what he THINKS the people who voted him want? or perhaps a mix of both?

Sometimes he seems to be influenced by others (some say he fired people after Laura Loomer told him to, for example), but sometimes he seems to have ideas he thinks are great and he won't listen to people who disagree with him (although most people around him are probably afraid to disagree with him).
