She was just stunning in that movie and it totally seemed like she would become an amazing actress. Instead, she chose to become the female version of Matthew McConaughey and never make a good movie again. Damn shame.

Matthew McConaughey has completely turned around his career and over the past couple years has been choosing amazing, projects. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get an Oscar nomination this year for Dallas Buyers Club.

wow "female version of Matthew McConaughey"
right on the NOSEY!!
i watch "Almost Famous" on a pretty regular basis .. i'm a big rock/music fan and it is absolutely one of the best movies ever with rock as its lynch pin we know how most "rock movies" turn out, which is like Kate Hudson's career after "Almost Famous" does she read these scripts or just hang them on a wall, close her eyes, and throw a dart? actually, she'd have a better percentage of hitting better roles that way i'm guessing
why does she keep picking so many of those god awful cookie-cutter comedy-romances that Hollywood seems to spew out on a daily basis? same thing again and again well, not exactly the same they get worse each time (my wife likes these films so i'm kind of trapped into watching them far too often i might have holes in my tongue from biting it; i'd have to check)
she was so good in "Almost Famous" and then there isn't one film in the following 13 years that is even close to that quality or where she seems to even put in an effort really it's such a shame really someone who can do the Penny Lane role so well really does have talent why doesn't she use it?
really bothers me when i'm about halfway thru "Almost Famous" and realize there is no other movie she has made that i can watch her in to enjoy more of her work such a shame
take care,

mcconaughey has actually started to make good movies, his movie Mud from earlier this year was highly praised by critics who also loved his performance, and his most recent movie Dallas Buyer's Club is even moreso and there are talks of him being nominated for an oscar for his role in the movie

It's funny and interesting to see how effing good McCounaghey proved to be these last months, making the OP comparison look stupid haha (i know i know it was posted way before his great comeback).
So, maybe there's hope for Kate! -

Totally agree! What a waste of talent! Now she's on beep Glee?! Talk about rock bottoming it!
I don't know if it was bad representation or simply poor taste but I guess she didn't get great offers and one bad movie leads to another.
I find it interesting that most post in the thread are about how awesome McConaughey is (like him or not, even if he did a 180 in the past couple of years, he did have a long series of terrible movies, bad choices and lazy performances before that so the OP was right)
Ironically, it also pretty much epitomizes the gender gap in Hollywood. How many women who wasted their talent on romcoms have been or will be afforded a second chance in serious parts after they turn 40, I wonder

I'm watching
Almost Famous
, and like the rest of the people in this thread, am shocked that she never did anything good again.
Maybe she really isn't a particularly good actress, but that Cameron Crowe is a talented director, and used her genuine charisma to excellent effect. And that without a great director telling his life story she had to fall back on her skills, and they2000just aren't there. -

I was just thinking this same thing when I saw
Almost Famous
in the Netflix lineup. She was sooo good. Maybe she could team up with Crowe again.
[That said, I personally can't stand McConaugheyI believe he acts the same character in every movie. The Oscar? The Academy will give one to any actor who loses (or sometimes gains) a lot of weightoften a biopic is enough (especially for an actress): Robert De Niro (Raging Bull), Tom Hanks (Philadelphia), Christian Bale (The Fighter) Watch Jake Gyllenhaal get a nomination for
The Nightcrawler

The thing is that comedy is actually harder than drama. So Kate Hudson has pretty much spent her 2000s career being miscast. She does have some acting talent but it seems that these romantic comedies are the only parts she can get, even if she's not suited to comedy. I suggest watching her in The Skeleton Key - she shows off some great charisma in a serious role and I even see shades of some Jennifer Lawrence-like badass attitude. It's a shame that there's not more action roles for females in Hollywood, because I could see Kate Hudson doing really well as an action star.
