Aldrears, I just love it when you make a racist statement in the process of calling someone else racist. People sure are stupid. I'm white and know full well who she is. But she does not look like herself anymore. That was the point they were making.

No, I think truth be told Blacks in America share many of the same things cultural touchstones White America does because that's the dominant culture, as well as the things are more specific to the Black people. However, I don't think the reverse holds true as much. Yeah, there are some things like hip hop music & certain movies and tv shows like The Cosby Show that don't apply, but overall there is a disconnectbecause a predominantly Black Tv show is likely 'alternative' programming rather than mainstream fare. That's not racist, that's just a fact.
For example, Friends was a predominantly White TV show (aside from its last year), yet I'm pretty sure there many Blacks of a certain age who know all the catchphrases because it was a mainstream 'hit'. However, a show like Martin or Living Singlemay have been qualified as a mainstream hit in "Black America", but not anywhere else.
So if John Henton is being interviewed on BET, I'm pretty sure they know who he is. But if he walks on the Today show and Al's not there, its doubtful.
While I'm sure there aren't tons of Black people who never watched an epi of Friends or Frasier, just as well as non Blacks who LOVED School Daze.generally speaking it's not the norm.
