For those of you whippersnappers too young to remember ~~~
When Jasmine Guy hit the scene, she generated pure electricity.
I remember she walked onto the set of the Arsenio Hall Show at the Gower Studios one night, and at first you could hear the men literally groan & whistle. Then the entire audience went silent. Arsenio for once could not think of a word to say. She moved like a sleek, lithe panther with her hair pulled back in a tight, long pony-tail. He just let her slowly sashay over in silence to take his outstretched hand.
She was tiny. Everyone knew she was a dancer. She had a hit TV show. Whatever. But she had something else. She projected an electric energy that literally silenced the room.
This is why Eddie Murphy #1 box office draw on Planet Earth ~~ cast her as the femme fatale in the first movie he wrote & directed.
Eddie Murphy could have cast any actress he wanted. Any actress in the world would have killed for the part, because Eddie was the man at that point in time in Hollywood.
It has been debated and gossiped forever that the reason Jasmine's career in movies stopped cold at that time was because she refused to sleep with Eddie Murphy. I have no inside info on that.
In hindsight, of course, the movie bombed. But so what?
Jasmine Guy was H.O.T.
For all you bashing the fact that the woman aged, well duh. She has borne a child, been ill, has gone thru all the ups and downs of life ~~~ well sorry, y'all. These things happen.
She was a white-hot comet back in the day, people.
