When I was in college I took a film class elective in which we all had to bring in a film to share and discuss. I brought in one of my favorites, Man Bites Dog, which NO ONE had scene before (That alone should have disqualified the very christian professor from teaching a film study class) and I have never been in a more uncomfortable room than when the discussion began following the film. I LOVED IT!

I love this show, but for whatever reason this episode scared the $hit out of me, even though I had an idea of how it was going to end.
I watched it after the second and third episode.
Fred and Bill played those characters great and creeped me out.
It's stupid but I had a nightmare that night. LOL>
I don't let anyone hot-comb out my HAIRitage!

"He said 'you'll never see your wife again!' So then I said I've been happily divorced for 11 years! Then he said, 'well, then you'll never see your kids again!' So I told him guess what?! I don't have any kids! There's something wrong with my ex-wife's uterus. I don't want to go into great detail, but Her ovaries recoil back like a vacuum cleaner cord. But to respect her privacy for this, I'll just.tell the rest of the story"

Little Vivvy reminds me exactly of this woman I do odd jobs for who acts/dresses just like that. Big Vivvy even reminds me of her daughter.
I remember one time she had me over for dinner and I felt like the only thing missing was having my leg shackled at the dinner table.

It's just a general mashup of the kooky subculture convention genre: Trekkies, Spellbound, Wordplay, etc.

The guys at work didn't believe that was him either. "Ugly women. The Eskimo. F###ed about 3 of them." Makes me laugh EVERY time.

  • Hader in Kunuk made this entire series for me.

If you watch the documentary Grey Gardens (and the movie of the documentary) you'll see just how spot on he was with his Little Vivvy (Edie) character.
I think Hader and Armisen are a fantastic comedy duo, I always loved their bits together on SNL (like the Queen of Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, hilarious!).

It's funny if you know the original documentary - if you have a frame of reference, that is. Yes, Sandy Passage was funny: I watched the film Grey Gardens with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange and am familiar with the original doc.
